Winter can make it tricky to keep kids active…
Shorter days, busy routines, and cold weather mean it’s easy for screens and cosy indoor time to take over.
And that sometimes that’s completely okay – we all need a bit of downtime!
But if you’re looking for small, realistic ways to keep your kids moving (and feeling good) through the darker months, here are a few ideas that don’t need big plans or perfect weather:
🧣 1. Little Bursts of Movement Count
A quick living room dance-off, a few star jumps between TV episodes, or even walking to the shop together – it all adds up.
🌤️ 2. Make the Most of Daylight
If there’s a dry spell or a bit of winter sun, even a short outdoor play or trip to the park can make a big difference to mood and energy.
🏠 3. Get Creative Indoors
Blanket forts, scavenger hunts, or following along to a YouTube workout – movement can be fun and spontaneous, not a chore.
🤝 4. Keep it Social
Invite a friend over for a playdate or family games night. Activity happens naturally when kids are together.
At this time of year, it’s all about balance, isn’t it!
A mix of activity, play, rest, screens, and a bit of fresh air. Everyone is doing their best to keep kids happy and healthy, and finding that balance between cosy and active!
